    You are in a small cavern lit by torches set onto the
walls. There are a few stout wooden chairs, and a scarred
table.
    In the corner an old elf is hunched over in the trash and
filth.  He looks utterly dejected and lost.  Looking up, the
pain in his eyes is terrible to behold.  Strangely, he does not 
seem surprised to see you; he looks as if he wouldn't be surprised
if Sauron himself wandered past, and asked for a light.
    There is a hole in the roots that make up the roof of this
cavern, and a rope ladder leads up into it. The only other exit
appears to be a torchlit tunnel to the west.
    The only obvious exits are west and ladder.

used as an orcish encampment.  Such trash is nearly always their
handiwork.

the coming of anything evil. Surrounding the whole of a tree, the
flet is easily guarded by elves in a rotation period of one watching
north and east, the other watching south and west. Nothing will
get by them.
