Before you is the great tower of Orthanc, a menace still
in the desolation that lies around it. The black rock which makes
up the tower gleams as if it was wet even when it is not. The
many faces of stone have sharp edges as if they had been newly
chiseled. A few scorings, and small flake-like splinters at its
base, are all the marks it bears from the fury of the Ents. On the
eastern side there is a great door high above the ground; and
over it a shuttered window, opening upon a balcony hedged with
iron bars. This is the only entrance to the tower of Orthanc,
but, alas, the key is locked inside with its master!
The only obvious exit is southeast.

walking up the steps to the door of Orthanc. Faintly in the
distance of your mind you hear the shouts of Treebeard, but they
are lost upon you. Slowly the door opens and you enter the
tower of Orthanc.

of Orthanc. Shadows conceal all but the most obvious features
of the foyer. Great archways and pillars make up the room
which you are now in. All thoughts, sorrows, and concerns
are lost deep in the fathoms of the dark beauty of Orthanc.
You gaze around in wonder at the vast spiraling staircases which
twist and turn into the higher levels of Orthanc. No matter the
beauty of it, though, you can not help but notice an evil aura
about the place.
The only obvious exits are up and out.
