Few years old during battlepoints, just ran across this log and it's kind of retarded. Guess I just tried spamming 'get bolas' and trying to travelto riv, no commands at all worked :( First time I had seen this shit...

He became a power in 2002 (confirmed to me by Mathias earlier today). Daen Hecil, the guild, was created in early 2003. I remember quite vividly the row which erupted over his Durmanhoth character, which is why I thought you might have gotten confused. I guess you must be referring to an entirely different scandal.

He had the duel-role thing going on.

Bullshit. He was Guild Liason whilst he had a DH character until I made a big song and dance about it to aule then he left.

It was Durmanhoth where that typist famously had a mortal character whilst simultaneously acting as guild liaison on his ainur. He also had a FRA character at one point, but I'm unsure on the timing of that one. It may have been before he was in charge of guilds. By the time DH was created, however, he was already a power.

What a fucking joke that was that Howler was allowed to have a DH char despite being guilds liason at the time. No punishment of course. Same reason all the powers have alts in Malglinoth I guess?

Protip: If Howler died to you, your shit got nerfed.

Of course, I was just making the point that posting logs is about as far from subtletly as you can get. I am prepared to guarantee that an abusable item or feature will last more than twice as long if the person never posts a log, regardless of how much they publicly praise it. Also the choice of targets is a big factor. You could kill 100 noobs with a bugged weapon, but one player who knows a lot about the MUD (or just someone who can whinge loudly or is an ainu alt) could get you nuked/the item nerfed. And I'm pretty sure most modern-day cheats are well aware of this.

I think it's a case of just generally not being discreet. Posting logs would contribute toward it, yes, as indeed would using a feature at every possible opportunity or showing it to too many friends. I was referring to Kelos' sledgehammer style subtlety; not attempting to make a case for the absurd notion that the sword got removed because he claimed it was his.

I think posting logs of yourself using the item/trick probably does more towards getting it nerfed than just calling it your sword. I could call ranger's longsword my sword without there actually being any advantage to using it.

It was even better before Kelos, ever the soul of discretion, discovered how good it was and started publicly referring to it as 'his sword' thereby drawing attention to it. For future reference, if anybody reading this ever stumbles across something which has the rare combination of being good and not too well know, then please have the sense to be subtle about it. Otherwise it ends up being downgraded like so many good weapons have been, or brought into popular usage by every Tom, Dick or Harry like the STS lockup was.

Lomar and I figured out something really neat you can do with HTHS a few months ago. That's one underappreciated item ;)

I have other examples of incredibly stupid things Melkor thinks are a good idea, but I'm going to exert some self control and not mention them.

Melkor thought these were a great idea. Like, amidst and after people were complaining about them.

Good thing he's so in contact with what's good for the game when he assumes positions of power.

Also how it takes months of whining and people abusing them before they man up and admit their mistake.
